What is your occupation and position?

Founder of IMAN Cosmetics, and the new line, I-IMAN Makeup.

Describe how you got into your professional occupation?

I had been modeling a long time and was forever mixing colors and playing chemist to get the right shades for my skin. I realized there were many women of color out there whose cosmetic needs were not being addressed. This year we launched I-IMAN Makeup, which is a very fun and funky line that is for every girl- not just women of color. It's very hip and there are colors for everyone. The line has eighteen shades of Stick Foundation!

What do you do that most appeals to teens?

I get to play with makeup! Makeup is my job. I think most teenaged girls love makeup and dressing up and and I am fortunate that being glamorous is part of what I do for a living! I am also privileged in the sense that I get to be involved in charities like Mother's Voices (an AIDS Foundation) and the Children's Defense Fund. I think it is important for teens to try to give something back to their community in volunteer and charity work.

What's hot news about your occupation and what is the latest news on your product?

The hottest news in the cosmetics industry is just how far and wide it has expanded and how many fun new brands are out there and making it. Even ten years ago there might not have been such a great reaction to I-IMAN Makeup but now the line is doing wonderfully and teens really love it. Gwen Stefani is a big fan of the line! The line includes an eyebrow kit with stencils and press-on metallic nails, which Eve wears in the photographs for her new album!

What do teens need to focus on to deal with this fast paced world?

That's a broad question and I will give a two part answer. First of all, get involved in activities that YOU love- not what others say you should like. If you want to be an actress or scientist or fly planes, don't let anyone say you can't. Secondly, make sure you back up your aspirations with some kind of education. I cannot say enough how important it is to get an education. Unless you truly are a star football player you can't go very far without an education.

What do you want to tell teens about yourself?

I lived an exciting life for a long time and still do in some respects, but now I enjoy being with my husband, David, and my new baby, Lexie. She is a joy. As you settle into life you will discover that the things that make you most happy really are the most simple ones, like a good night's sleep or a quiet night at home in your slippers (with lipstick on, of course)!

Do you have any questions that you would like to ask teenagers?

I would like to know what teens are most apprehensive about these days, and how they deal with the threat of violence in their schools. I wonder if it is something that every teen thinks about- whether or not it could happen in their school. I also like to keep up with the teen magazines and see what teens are into. I love the makeup, clothes, and music culture of today's teens. When I set out to create I-IMAN Makeup, I definitely had teens and their tastes in mind!

What are your plans for the future?

Right now I am enjoying the success of the new I-IMAN Makeup line and the continued success of IMAN Cosmetics. I have other plans up my sleeve but I can't tell you about those because that would ruin the surprise (but it might have something to do with teens)! I also look forward to watching my daughter grow-up (but not too fast)!

Look, just because you have an opinion doesn't mean you have to bash someone to hell. Iman was the first black supermodel, she is a successful business woman, and she supports great causes. She has been such an influence on modern fashion. The people who are saying about her are obviously friggin idiots who have *#! in their brains don't know what the hell they are talking about. Sara up top said she loved that name and she asked what it meant. Well, I don't know what it means but I know that it is a Somali name. It probably means sumthin about the sun or stars cuz I am Somali too and a lot of names have to do with nature. N E ways she beautiful huh? And how old is she? Past 40s i think! The first time I saw a picture of her I immediatly knew she was Somali cuz her features we so Somali! I asked my mom and she told me her name. You seem like a very grounded person, and that's great. As a teen, I can tell you that if you keep goin gthe way you are, you will make a huge impact on the lives of many people, if you haven't already. In answer to your questions about teens though, I know that a lot of people are worries about where violence in school is going, but since it is so unpredictable and comes in big waves, all we can do is hope that we can catch it next time. Another thing though is that not everything you read about teens liking in the teen magazines is true. To get to know what teens like, you have to actually sit down with teenagers from every walk of life and style to discuss what they're tastes really are. I think it's awesome that you were able to broaden the spectrum of makeup to people of all races. Actions like that make the world a bit smaller for everyone. It's also really cool how your job is "playing with makeup", that's awesome that you get to have fun and get paid for it! Also, in answering yoru question about the threat of violence, I feel that once teenagers realize that even if things aren't going great now there still is a whole life ahead of them that can be filled with great things, the violence will stop.
